“Mr. Bereket has shown both candor and courage. The novel goes beyond being a mere object of aesthetic contemplation, and asserts itself as a political testament as well as a lesson in history.”

Riding the Whirlwind

“Even those unfamiliar with the momentous events of Ethiopian history in 1974 will find Bereket Habte Selassie’s novel fascinating. For those whose lives were in any way touched by those events, the book offers dramatic and evocative reenactment of that historic episode.”

Riding the Whirlwind

Donald N. Levine, Professor, The University of Chicago

Critical Narrative & Reflections on Ethiopian History, authored by a distinguished professor, Dr. Bereket Habte Selassie is written at a time of creative stagnation in Ethiopia and it could be a blessing for potential Ethiopian scholars to initiate investigative discourses on the overall Ethiopian phenomenon despite the negative impulses in the larger Ethiopian society.

Critical Narratives and Reflections on Ethiopian History

Ghelawdewos Araia, PhD, Associate Professor,

History is real and authentic when written by history makers. Professor Bereket Habte Selassie demonstrated this reality in his latest book. It represents a culmination of Professor Bereket’s outstanding work, and a sturdy testimonial of Ethiopia’s intellectual heritage.

Critical Narratives and Reflections on Ethiopian History

Tseggai Issac, Chancellor’s Professor of Political Science,

This is a riveting tale of the idealistic fervor of a generation of Ethiopians swept away by the revolution that was to shake and eventually destroy the very foundation of the millennia old feudal monarchy and consume some of them in the process.

DELIVERANCE

This novel once again shows that the most gifted, the most farsighted and the most deserving to lead were obliterated by the least qualified to lead. The heartbreaking events that led to the demise of Berhane Meskel Redda, and other prominent Ethiopian intellectuals is woven into a suspenseful novel. The pain and sorrow in the novel is coupled with hope and forgiveness.

DELIVERANCE

“Bereket Habte Selassie has been one of the wise voices of African politics and constitutional law for fifty years. Informed both by deep scholarship and his enormously rich experience, these essays offer crucial insights as Africa enters a new era. Why is democracy needed? How can nations co-exist with international cooperation? How can balance be found between freedom and order? These are essays for Africa, but they address themes of much wider significance.”

Accomplishes what it tries to. It’s short and concise. It provides a good view of the man for such a short book. It’s very honest, he undoubtedly had a lot of love in his heart but tge book doesn’t trt to paint him as a saint.

Would recommend for any Rastafari as there doesn’t seem to be any ulterior motive other than providing honest information. He definitely made some mistakes and did some bad things. But if you’re going to follow this man as a Rastafari, it’s better to do so under no illusions.

Jah bless.
